WHY 4.5 APPROACH ISN'T A LONG TERM POLITICAL SOLUTION.

An old man had once passed by a young girl cooking a fish and as he was passing by he noted that the girl was cutting off almost half of head and half of the fish’s tail then she put it on the saucepan. Out of curiosity the old man asked the girl “Why are you cutting a good portion of the fish meat”. Then she replied “I saw my mom cook this way”.

Old man: Great, can you ask you mom why she taught you to cook it like this.
Girl:        Ok Sir.
Girl:        Asks “Mom, why you cook the fish and cut off half of it when cooking.
Mom     replies “I don’t why; I just saw my mom (Grand-mom) cook that way”
Girl:        Mom, can you please ask grandma.
Mom     asks “Mom (Grandma), why is it that you used to cut the fish from head and tail with half of its flesh??”.
Grandma :          replied “My daughter, I even don’t know; let ask you grandma (Grand-grandmother).
Grand-grandma  :        when asked the same question, she replied “It’s because we never had a big saucepan that could fit the whole fish so that’s why we had to cut off half of the fish meat”.

If one doesn’t go beyond the first encounter with the young girl then its hard to know the reasons behind her actions and means of cooking, it’s a culture and in any society culture is what is inherited from generations and refocusing the current trends of politics and politicians it quite fair to dig deep and kind of learning the political culture and the trends of the political culture that had been inherited from the older generation. To get a long lasting political stability and formation of formidable government in Somalia; we need to go back into the root cause and magnify our lens far and beyond the 4.5 module that was form for temporary established back in early 2000s.

4.5 approach can be a short solution based on unfairness and lack of inclusivity in the political arena while favoring some dominant actors and leaving other to remain political shadow.  Somalis need to adopt a new approach and review the lessons learnt from the failures of the 4.5 model.

14 th Oct,2017 marks as a black day for the Somali people in general after a devastating lorry explosion had basted out at one of the business street junctions in Mogadishu exactly at Zope Junction.
